The Shinigami know what death is like – they know it better than anyone else in this world. They know that death is a graceful goddess with eyes like bottomless black lakes – and that death and winter are alike. They know that death’s long white fingers are cold – that death’s loving touches are cold – that death’s gentle embrace is cold.
They know that death’s last kiss freezes your blood and stops your heartbeat.
But they also know that even in the frozen kingdom of spirits, if you hold somebody’s hand, just for a moment, you can remember the warmth of life.
